Poland sets up provisional XBRL Jurisdiction

18 April 2006

Poland has set up a provisional XBRL jurisdiction following strong interest in the use of XBRL by the National Bank and other leading organisations.

The setting up of the jurisdiction, approved by the XBRL International Steering Committee (ISC), will enable Poland better to recruit local XBRL members and progress the use of the electronic language.  A jurisdiction is a local legal entity which has the exclusive right to represent XBRL International (XII) in its area and is able to provide official support to XBRL projects and initiatives.  It is responsible for encouraging the development and adoption of XBRL in its particular area.  Jurisdictions are initially classed as provisional and become classed as established after achieving targets on growth of membership and other criteria.

Poland already has a range of XBRL initiatives under way.  It is working on the creation of a taxonomy to enable companies to report annual accounts under Polish GAAP in XBRL.  A pilot project for the filing of financial reports in XBRL to the Polish Inland Revenue is under detailed discussion.  A series of conferences and training meetings on XBRL have taken place.

The new jurisdiction will be working on the use of XBRL for the filing of consolidated annual accounts under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), raising awareness of XBRL, and increasing cooperation with Poland’s Ministry of Finance, Inland Revenue and Companies House.

The Accountants Association in Poland is acting as the facilitator of the new jurisdiction.  The National Bank also holds seats on the Board of Directors.

The general secretary is Mateusz Hojda, who may be contacted via xbrlpl@xbrl.org

Those interested in more information or contributing to the new jurisdiction should contact xbrlpl@xbrl.org.
