XII offers training at Madrid Conference on preparing financial reports in XBRL

26 April 2006

XBRL International (XII) is pleased to offer a two-day training event, Preparing XBRL Financial Reports ( IFRS Edition), which will be held on May 18-19, 2006, in Madrid in conjunction with the 13th International XBRL Conference.

The primary purpose of this session at the conference is to aid jurisdictions in developing their own trainers and champions.  Jurisdictions should send members who are candidates to be future trainers and XBRL champions.

The course is open only to those who have registered for the full International Conference.  Course size is limited to 15 attendees, so those interested should book early.

The session will be presented by Barry Smith, Professor at Dublin City University, with additional support from Maciej Piechocki, IASC Foundation XBRL Team, and Diane Mueller, XBRL International.

In order to host this session, XII needs a minimum of 10 confirmed attendees, so please register as soon as possible so that we can ensure that the course is held.  There are NO additional fees for this course beyond conference registration.  The only costs are those that would anyway be incurred in attending the conference, such as travel and accommodation.  Attendees must bring their own laptop computers for use on the course.

Software Used

The course will be taught using the Rivet Dragon Tag tool.  Time permitting at the end of the second day, a short overview of the Fujitsu Xwand Tool will also be given.  The course materials have been designed to work with either tool.  In recognition of the role of the attendees as future trainers, we will strive to cover both products as far as feasible.  The baseline course materials have been prepared to be tool-neutral.  It is up to the instructor and hosting organisation to choose between the provided Rivet and Fujitsu guides and to decide which tool to use for the course.

Course Objectives

The chief goal of the course is to train preparers of XBRL instance documents.  It will cover the following topics:

·                 Mapping of financial data to a taxonomy.

·                 Creating, validating and disseminating a company extension taxonomy.

·                 Management of XBRL projects.

·                 Creation of valid instance documents.

·                 Performing a simple XBRL quality audit.

Pre-requisites

This two-day course shows financial professionals how to prepare reports in XBRL.  No prior technical knowledge is assumed.  As far as possible, the course avoids XBRL technical detail.  It covers only the technical detail which is essential to enable the tools to be used effectively.
