The XBRL International Standards Board (XSB) has established new procedures for the operation of International (XII) working groups and for the production of technical material. It has also agreed to the setting up of several new working groups to move forward key developments.

The new procedures build on the previous working methods used by XII but introduce more rigorous rules for the creation and membership of working groups and for the development, publication and approval of specifications and other material. They represent necessary changes as the XII consortium grows and the use of XBRL expands rapidly around the world.

The goal is to establish practices which will help working groups consistently to produce high-quality technical specifications and other work products.

The XSB has also agreed to the establishment of a number of working groups in line with a roadmap setting out the consortium’s development priorities. The working groups are: Formula, Functions, Dimensions, Base Specification & Maintenance, XBRL GL, Rendering.

CALLS FOR PARTICIPATION IN A NUMBER OF THESE GROUPS HAVE BEEN ISSUED - see the separate news item below.

XBRL International (XII) has named Pedro Souss as its new Executive Director with immediate effect.

Mr Souss has extensive senior management experience in information technology with a range of consulting firms and international organisations. He has worked with a variety of governments and agencies on technology development, including in Nicaragua for the Inter American Development Bank (IDB), Switzerland for the United Nations (UN), Kazakhstan for the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and in Bulgaria for USAID.

As Executive Director of XII, Mr Souss will be responsible for implementing XII’s strategic plans and policies and for coordinating relationships with local XBRL Jurisdictions, among other tasks.

XBRL International is calling on all those interested in participating in new working groups to step forward and declare their willingness to involve themselves in one or more of the groups' activities. The groups concerned are:
  • Rendering - tasked with the creation of a specification for the rendering of XBRL instances.
  • Formula - tasked with the creation of specification for the declaration of XBRL formulae
  • Base Specification & Maintenance - responsible for providing and documenting authoritative interpretations of the XBRL 2.1 specification
If any of these subjects is important to your organisation, then your organisation is urged to contribute to these groups. Participants gain insight into the use of XBRL features as well as helping to ensure that work products are effective and of high quality. They can take part in many ways – from contributing to discussions to editing documents or writing test data. All organisations which have an interest in these areas are encouraged to respond to this call, but those which are not XBRL members are reminded they will have to join the consortium to take part in its working groups.

For more information and to apply to join any of these groups, please see the links below.
