Learn More about XBRL Europe
XBRL Europe was created in June 2008, under the initiative of XII and some European jurisdictions, in order to foster regional communication and coordination in Europe. XBRL Europe, among other initiatives, aims to coordinate pan European projects, and constitute a central liaison point to the European Union authorities concerning XBRL, XBRL Europe is incorporated in Belgium (Brussels) as a non profit international association (Association Internationale sans but lucratif).
XBRL Europe Objectives
• To foster collaboration between XBRL projects in Europe and between European Countries to harmonize and identify common practices,
• To develop liaison and dialogue with European level organisations and European Authorities (European Commission, European Parliament, European Central Bank, etc) to increase XBRL awareness,
• To encourage and support the emergence of new members and jurisdictions in Europe in coordination with Membership Development Committee (MDC) of XII
XBRL Europe governance and membership
XBRL Europe is an independent organization governed by its own bylaws, a general assembly, an Executive Committee and a Secretary General. XBRL International is a founding member of and supports the objectives identified above.
• As detailed in its bylaws, XBRL Europe membership comes from organisations and is
comprised of four categories of members.
- Cat 1: XII and those European Jurisdictions recognized as such by XII,
- Cat 2: European Commission or European Union official bodies,
- Cat 3: Direct association members w European focus,
- Cat 4: Direct Commercial members which have restricted voting rights
The benefits and rights of XBRL Europe membership
XBRL Europe administers various Working committees and technical working groups and forums. Each member of XBRL Europe (Cat 1) is entitled to follow all the work in the working groups and forums of XBRL Europe.
Each staff and/or designated persons from the other categories (Cat 2, 3 and 4) of members of XBRL Europe is also entitled to follow all the work in the working groups and forums of XBRL Europe.
XBRL Europe (Cat 3 & 4) Membership provides access to XBRL International, Inc in that it is treated as an XII Corresponding Membership.
