Proposed Edited Recommendations

A Proposed Edited Recommendation is an update to a RECOMMENDATION containing proposed edits. These are published for public review and commentary before the RECOMMENDATION itself is changed, in order that potential affected stakeholders have the opportunity to ascertain the consequences of the edits for them. They will then be able to provide feedback that will enable XBRL International to determine the best time to implement the updates (or possibly even not to implement the updates) while causing the least disruption to the marketplace.

A Proposed Edited Recommendation is issued only where it is believed that a change to a RECOMMENDATION could affect conforming processors. It is not issued for simple errata corrections.

For further details on this process please see "Modifying an XII Recommendation"

XBRL Dimensions 1.0 - November 20, 2011

This specification allows XBRL taxonomy authors to define and restrict dimensional information that instance authors may use in the <segment> and <scenario> elements of the <context> element of XBRL instance documents. It satisfies XBRL International’s dimensional taxonomy requirements [Dimensions Requirements]. It is a modular extension to [XBRL 2.1]. It provides a generalised mechanism to define dimensional metadata and to reference it in XBRL instances. Its architecture is such that any XBRL artefacts (instances and their Discoverable Taxonomy Sets) that conform to this specification also conform to the base specification and may be processed without error by any processor that is capable of correctly processing XBRL artefacts, even if those processors are unaware of this modular extension. It is also designed in such a way that it makes maximum use of components of [XBRL 2.1] in its components so as to require a minimum amount of retooling of applications in order to be implemented. Accordingly certain compromises have, of necessity, been made in the design that would not have been made if 100% compatibility with the base specification had not been a requirement.

Feedback is requested and must be sent to spec@xbrl.org.

Variables 1.0 - October 19, 2011

This specification is an extension to the XBRL Specification [XBRL 2.1]. It defines syntax for structures that support the extraction and usage of information from an XBRL instance and its supporting discoverable taxonomy set.  The proposed edits are described in Appendix E

This specification provides building blocks for other extension specifications including for XBRL formulae and for assertions about the expected content of XBRL instances.

Please send feedback to formula-feedback@xbrl.org.

XBRL 2.1 Specification - proposed edits November 16, 2011

A Proposed Edited Recommendation has been drafted and is provided here along with an updated conformance suite so that software vendors can test changes that would be necessary in order to support these changes.

Please send feedback to spec@xbrl.org. Feedback will be accepted until 12/31/2011.

The proposed edits are contained in the following documents which contain the text of the specification in various formats.

Match Filters 1.0 - October 19, 2011

This specification is an extension to extension to the XBRL Variables Specification. It defines syntax for filters that condition upon matching the value of an aspect of a fact to the same aspect of other facts.  The proposed edits are to clarify the behaviour when the @variable is bound to non-fact(s) or to facts that are not consistent in the value of the covered aspect.

Please send feedback to formula-feedback@xbrl.org.

Generic Labels  - March 21, 2011

This specification defines syntax for labels that are more flexible than those defined in the XBRL Specification. Labels in the XBRL specification are limited in that they are only useful for labelling concepts. In contrast, generic labels can be used to associate a label with any element. Generic labels provide a syntactic foundation for XBRL extension specifications.

The proposed edit is to add a lang attribute to labels - it is highlighted in the document

This updates the current Generic Labels Recommendation

Feedback is invited by e-mail to formula-feedback@xbrl.org

Function Definitions  - June 23, 2010

This specification is defines a syntax for an XML resource that contains information about an XBRL function. Such resources can be referenced from the XBRL function registry

The proposed edits are the inclusion of the requirement to throw the standard XPath error codes for mismatched number and type of parameters.

This updates the current Function Definitions Recommendation
