XBRL International releases new tool to illustrate the use of GL taxonomy

27 August 2005

The XBRL International GL Working Group has released an online viewer which is being packed with annotated examples of the use of the XBRL GL, the Journal taxonomy.  This will help those familiarising themselves with GL, prospective users and implementers and all those who require a set of XBRL GL samples.

The tool named GaLaPaGoS -- XBRL GL Practices Guide for Study – is available at http://gl.iphix.net.  It can also be accessed via the GL files page at http://www.xbrl.org/GLFiles

GaLaPaGos will regularly be stocked with new annotated sample instance documents.  These documents provide human readable commentary, explanatory materials and even note areas for future growth, along with sample practices.  Both HTML (easily readable) and XML (reusable) versions, each with commentary, are available.

GaLaPaGos will show the scope and expressive capabilities of XBRL GL from original transaction, such as timecards or invoices, through journal entries (including cross-GAAP and with book to tax differences) to summary reports, such as job cost actual vs. budget or GL trial balance.

The GL Working Group expects to provide a wide variety of instances.  If you are a potential implementer and would like to see priority given to the development of certain instances, please let the Group know via xbrlgl@xbrl.org.  Click on the names of the various accounting modules to see the examples we expect to provide in the short term  --  feel free to suggest others or let us know which you would like to see first.
