SEC invites feedback on draft 2026 taxonomies

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has published its draft 2026 taxonomies for public review. These are the classification systems that underpin structured filings in EDGAR, ensuring data is reported in a consistent and comparable way.

The draft includes updates across all accepted SEC taxonomies, with detailed notes available online. Feedback is open until 12 November, and the SEC is calling on filers, investors, analysts and software providers to share technical input by email.

After review, the taxonomies will be finalised and submitted for Commission approval. Transition guidance will follow if needed, but the SEC stresses that the release of the draft does not in itself signal any regulatory change.

Annual taxonomy updates are the quiet but vital work that keeps structured reporting robust. Each cycle helps refine data quality and usability for the many stakeholders who rely on digital disclosures.

Full details and draft files are available on the SEC website.
