Japan progresses with 2027 EDINET taxonomy plans

Posted on November 14, 2025 by Editor

This week Japan’s Financial Services Agency (FSA) published the results of its recent consultation on the 2027 EDINET Taxonomy Development Proposal, confirming continued progress towards embedding the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Taxonomy into Japan’s digital reporting infrastructure.

The FSA reiterated its intention to move forward with development, aiming to publish the 2027 EDINET taxonomy in 2026 ahead of use from 2027. The results align with its earlier proposal for an “indirect hybrid” approach: adopting the ISSB taxonomy with some Japan-specific extensions.

While technical decisions are still to come, here at XBRL International we strongly support this efficient, unified path that integrates the ISSB taxonomy within EDINET. This approach enhances international comparability, is efficient for both issuers and users, and promotes digital sustainability reporting that is structured, consistent, and decision-useful.

More details (in Japanese) are available here.
