Taxonomy Packages 1.1 reaches Candidate Recommendation

Posted on October 3, 2026 by Editor

The XBRL Standards Board has approved Taxonomy Packages 1.1 as a Candidate Recommendation, meaning it is ready for software vendors to implement and test.

It’s a modest update to the zip-based format used to distribute taxonomies. Packages can now record exactly which other packages they depend on, pinned down by a content hash. They can also list xBRL-CSV entry points and carry their own .xbrt file extension. Every 1.1 package is still a valid 1.0 package, so existing tools will open them unchanged.
