Assertion Severity Specification moves to “Recommendation” Status

Posted on April 21, 2016 by Dave Nitchman

The XII Board of Directors has approved the Assertion Severity specification as “XBRL Recommendation”. This is a modular addition to the XBRL Formula specification that allows validation rules to be classified according to their severity.  This is to meet requirements from a number of XBRL implementations for formula rules that are treated as “warnings”, and thus do not cause rejection of a filing, and for validation messages that are purely informational, and not suggestive of any defect in the filing.
