FASB proposes 2026 taxonomy improvements

Posted on October 7, 2025 by Editor

The US Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) has published proposed technical and other conforming improvements for the 2026 US GAAP Financial Reporting Taxonomy. These updates aim to ensure the taxonomy remains up to date with changes in accounting standards and technical reporting needs.

The proposed changes include refinements to existing elements, updates to definitions, and conforming edits to reflect recent standard-setting activities. These enhancements are part of FASB’s annual taxonomy maintenance cycle, which ensures that digital reporting keeps pace with evolving financial reporting requirements. Maintaining a robust and accurate taxonomy is fundamental to supporting high-quality XBRL filings.

FASB invites stakeholders to share feedback with its taxonomy development team by 31 October 2025.
