IASB proposes second taxonomy update of 2026
The International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) has opened consultation on its second proposed update to the IFRS Accounting Taxonomy 2025, with comments welcome until 14 September 2026.
The update adds taxonomy elements for three recent changes to the standards: IFRS 20 Regulatory Assets and Regulatory Liabilities, issued this May; a November 2025 amendment to IAS 21 covering how companies translate figures into a hyperinflationary presentation currency; and August 2025 amendments to IFRS 19 Subsidiaries without Public Accountability: Disclosures.
IFRS 20 is likely the standard that will have most impact on a certain number of issuers. Rate-regulated activities have spent years in reporting limbo, and a brand-new standard brings a new crop of concepts into the taxonomy. The decisions made now will shape how these disclosures are tagged and analysed for years to come, so if you prepare, tag or use this data, it’s worth (at least!) thirty minutes of your time.
