Major updates are on their way. We’re simplifying and modernising the XBRL standard. Here’s what the future looks like:

  • Smoother, easier digital reporting for everyone from report preparers to regulators to end users. XBRL data will be easier to work with – simpler to understand, faster to analyse, with a much lower learning curve.
  • Data that’s AI-ready from the outset. Simpler, more predictable data structures designed for immediate, accurate use in automated and AI-driven analysis.
  • A clear transition pathway for upgrade – if and when the time is right. We’re taking the best of the standard forward, but all your current systems will keep working, so there’s no pressure to make the switch.
  • Simpler, more streamlined approach. We’re focused on taxonomies, the structured digital dictionaries at the heart of XBRL – hence the current work is known as “OIM Taxonomy.” Lighter, more consistent structures will make digital reporting easier to implement, and data easier to consume.

Right now, we’ll send you the initial requirements document. We’d love to hear your feedback, by 16 February 2026.
