The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) announced that XBRL-US will become an independent, not-for-profit organization. Initially formed as a volunteer committee of the AICPA, the new entity will continue as the chartered U.S. jurisdiction of XBRL International and as a member-supported entity.

US SEC announces plans for XBRL analysis software

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced plans for its own XBRL analysis tools which will run on the Web and enable investors and analysts to benefit from XBRL data. The agency has issued a formal request for proposals from the software industry for setting up a prototype system that will provide a user-friendly access to financial reports in XBRL submitted to its EDGAR database.

XBRL International has updated its Dimensions 1.0 Specification, releasing Candidate Recommendation 4. This contains mostly editorial and clarifying text updates to Candidate Recommendation 3. No substantive changes to the specification have been made, nor have the supporting schemas changed other than updating the copyright notices.

XBRL International announced that the 14th International XBRL Conference & Exhibition will be addressed by US Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Christopher Cox and other leading international government and business figures. It will take place in Philadelphia on December 4-6, 2006 to discuss and explain the use of XBRL, now being adopted rapidly for business reporting by regulators around the world.
