India completes shift to MCA V3: digital filings fully modernised

Posted on June 9, 2025 by Editor

India’s Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has announced it will launch the final set of 38 company forms on its upgraded MCA21 V3 portal on 14 July 2025. This milestone marks the full migration of statutory filings from the older V2 system to the enhanced V3 platform.

The rollout includes key forms for annual returns, financial statements, cost audits, CSR disclosures, and XBRL filings. With this final transition, all company filings under the Companies Act, 2013 and several under the 1956 Act will now be made exclusively through V3. The portal promises improved user experience, real-time processing, streamlined e-payments, and better tracking tools. In preparation, the V2 portal will be disabled for company forms on 18 June, and stakeholders must complete pending actions before that date.

The MCA21 V3 project began in 2023 as part of a broader digital governance initiative. Phased updates have steadily introduced functionality, with each stage bringing greater automation and data integrity. The current update includes expanded XBRL capabilities, allowing for higher-quality, standardised disclosures aligned with global best practices.

From an XBRL perspective, this is a vital step forward. The enhanced V3 environment strengthens India’s regulatory infrastructure, promoting transparency, accountability, and machine-readable reporting. It supports better compliance, enables data analytics, and aligns with international moves towards digital-by-default corporate disclosures.
