XBRL US joins fintech research hub to explore AI and structured data
XBRL US recently announced that it has joined the Center for Research toward Advancing Financial Technologies (CRAFT) as an affiliate member. The collaboration aims to explore how structured, standardised data, particularly in XBRL format, can enhance AI and other fintech applications. The partnership will kick off with a joint conference in Spring 2026, focused on building tools for auditors that integrate AI and structured data.
CRAFT, backed by the US National Science Foundation, brings together academic and industry players to drive innovation in financial technologies. By joining, XBRL US brings deep experience in regulatory reporting and open data standards. The new collaboration will examine how structured XBRL data can support AI-driven workflows, with early projects focusing on audit use cases. This includes leveraging large language models to streamline research, analysis and decision-making using structured financial data.
This is a timely and strategic move as the AI wave continues to gather force. AI technologies depend on clean, machine-readable inputs, which are precisely what XBRL provides. Embedding structured data into AI workflows could significantly boost the transparency, efficiency, and scalability of emerging fintech solutions. It also opens the door to new ways of applying XBRL beyond regulatory filings — including decentralised finance (DeFi), analytics, and automation.
