XBRL US calls for clearer documentation in FERC taxonomy updates
XBRL US has submitted a comment letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on proposed updates to the XBRL taxonomies used for regulatory filings covering various FERC forms. The updated taxonomies are expected to apply from first-quarter 2026 filings.
In its response, XBRL US focuses on improving the usability and transparency of taxonomy updates for preparers and software vendors. The letter recommends that FERC publish detailed release notes alongside taxonomy updates so users can easily identify changes. It also asks FERC to continue providing updated rendering templates when validation or rendering issues are resolved, allowing issuers to review filings within their software tools before submission.
The letter also calls for clearer explanations when problems are fixed in the taxonomy or platform. More detailed descriptions, XBRL US notes, would help vendors remove temporary workarounds and update their tools more efficiently, ultimately improving the experience for filers preparing structured data submissions to the commission.
