How do you prove that digital reporting was worth it?

The latest post in our blog series marking the launch of XBRL International’s Regulatory Playbook, tackles a question every regulator eventually faces: how do you demonstrate impact?

The benefits of digital reporting are real, from efficiency, to automation, better quality and comparability to easier data access. However, not everyone will take your word for it. Clear evidence of impact is what secures continued funding, maintains momentum, and builds confidence inside your team and beyond it. It also shows you what’s working and what isn’t.

That challenge is strongest in emerging economies, where budgets are tight and baseline data, standardised KPIs and digital experience are often in short supply. The Playbook walks through documenting a status quo baseline, choosing impact metrics for data collectors, preparers and consumers, and understanding how KPIs depend on one another.
