EBA finalises framework 4.4, with simplification next in line
The European Banking Authority (EBA) has released the final technical package for the first phase of version 4.4 of its reporting and Pillar 3 disclosure framework. A second phase is due in early 2027.
The package contains the Data Point Model (DPM), validation rules and XBRL taxonomies. It adds a new Supervisory Financial Reporting (FINREP) module aligned with IFRS 18, updated Pillar 3 disclosures on environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks, equity and shadow banking exposures, and templates for the Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA).
It also covers the European Central Bank’s FINREP data collection for less significant institutions, along with corrections to resolution planning and third-country branch templates.
The final version reflects feedback on the draft released in July. Release 4.4.1 will then implement the supervisory reporting simplification package consulted on between April and July 2026.
The EBA has said it may issue a targeted “hotfix” in January 2027 if early users hit critical problems, which is a pragmatic acknowledgement of the pressure new frameworks can bring.
