Assertions Severity 1.0 Approved to Proposed Recommendation

Posted on November 29, 2015 by Dave Nitchman

The XBRL Standards Board has promoted the Assertions Severity 1.0 specification to Proposed Recommendation, meaning that sufficient implementation experience has been gathered and it is believed that no additional development is necessary.

The Assertions Severity Specification is a modular addition to the XBRL Formula Specifications and was developed to provide flexibility in identifying different levels of severity to errors encountered when processing business rules. This is all tied to the need to provide validation capabilities in extensible and maintainable ways that are closely linked to XBRL data definitions. The new optional specification allows more nuanced validation processing to better address the business requirements of both filers and regulators.
