2025: a year of steady progress on XBRL specifications and guidance.
Throughout 2025, XBRL International has continued to strengthen our technical foundations through a series of targeted specification updates and practical guidance releases.
In addition to thousands of hours spent on the OIM Taxonomy project (see above), on the specification side, the year saw the release of an updated XBRL 2.1 Conformance Suite, reinforcing interoperability and helping software developers align implementations more closely with the standard. The XBRL Standards Board also advanced work on xBRL-CSV table constraints and shared further progress on digital signatures and constraints, signalling continued investment in modern, scalable reporting formats. Validation enhancements were also in the spotlight, with a new webinar unpacking upgraded features in Calculation 1.1.
Guidance and education featured just as prominently. New guidance on anchoring entity-specific disclosures provided clarity on a critical aspect of digital financial reporting, while a quick-start guide for taxonomy development supported new and experienced taxonomy authors alike. Community engagement continued through events and explainers, including follow-up materials for those who missed the XBRL Directions webinar.
As we continue into 2026, we see this blend of evolving specifications and providing practical guidance as remaining essential, ensuring that strong standards are matched by consistent implementation.
