EBA opens the Pillar 3 data hub to the public
The European Banking Authority (EBA) has announced the go-live of its Pillar 3 data hub, marking a major step forward in transparency for EU banking supervision. For the first time, these disclosures from all European Economic Area institutions are publicly accessible through a single, harmonised digital platform. Previously only accessible as PDFs on company websites, this is a substantial achievement.
The hub publishes Pillar 3 data that banks began submitting last year, offering users an intuitive visualisation tool to compare institutions, reporting periods and metrics. For those keen to dive deeper, bulk downloads are also available, supporting richer analysis and research. The EBA expects the full dataset for the first three 2025 reference dates to be available by mid-year.
This launch follows a successful testing phase and builds on the transitional arrangements under the final draft Implementing Technical Standards. During this period, institutions are submitting reports already published on their own websites, allowing them to get comfortable with the new platform before moving to a steady state by the end of 2025.
Centralised, structured Pillar 3 data improves transparency and comparability, strengthening market discipline. This latest step for the Pillar 3 hub underlines how digital reporting can deliver better outcomes for supervisors, analysts and AI-driven analysis. Yes, of course we would like to see more of the report being structured, using Inline XBRL for narrative, but this is an impressive start.
Readers can explore the full announcement and supporting materials on the EBA’s website.
