GRI and ISSB reaffirm commitment to joined-up sustainability reporting

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the IFRS Foundation have issued a joint statement setting out how GRI and ISSB standards can be used together to deliver efficient, comprehensive sustainability reporting for investors and wider stakeholders.

The statement builds on collaboration between the two bodies dating back to 2022, and follows a first substantive meeting between ISSB Chair Emmanuel Faber and GRI’s Global Sustainability Standards Board (GSSB) Chair Susanne Stormer. It describes areas of common disclosure the two organisations have been aligning, and makes clear that their standards serve distinct but complementary purposes.

Reducing the impact of duplicated disclosure obligations helps improve reporting efficiency. Two of the most widely used sustainability reporting frameworks edging closer together is the kind of quiet progress that makes the whole system work better for everyone who uses it.
