Kuwait publishes ISSB-aligned guidance for ESG disclosure

Posted on March 29, 2026 by Editor

The Boursa Kuwait has issued an updated ESG Disclosure Guide, sharpening expectations for listed companies during the country’s push towards more transparent, decision-useful sustainability reporting.

Published on 15 March, the 2026 edition reflects both domestic regulatory developments and the fast-moving global baseline for ESG disclosures. It incorporates standards from the International Sustainability Standards Board under the IFRS Foundation—including IFRS S1 and IFRS S2—signalling alignment with emerging international norms.

The update is closely tied to new regulatory requirements from Kuwait’s Capital Markets Authority, which will require Premier Market-listed companies to publish sustainability reports from 2026, covering the 2025 financial year. In that context, the guide serves as both a roadmap and a practical toolkit for preparers navigating increasingly complex disclosure expectations.

The revised guidance expands ESG indicators and introduces more detailed direction on technically demanding areas such as climate scenario analysis, transition planning and Scope 3 emissions. There is also a stronger emphasis on materiality, with enhanced guidance designed to support companies in identifying and prioritising the ESG issues most relevant to their business and stakeholders.

It also promotes alignment with established frameworks such as the Global Reporting Initiative, while introducing indicators tailored to Kuwait’s national priorities.

Taken together, the update reflects a broader shift in ESG reporting: from high-level commitments towards actionable, standardised ESG data.
