XBRL US Responds to the Request for Information and clarifies the aim of GEAR

In September 2018, XBRL US submitted a letter in response to the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) request for information on a proposed public/private partnership called the Government Effectiveness Advanced Research (GEAR) Center. The goals of this partnership are stated as “re-imagining possibilities for how citizens interact with the Government; rethinking the delivery of citizen services and data; reforming core processes e.g., procurement, budget, IT investment and capital allocation”.

Our colleagues at XBRL US point out that these goals speak directly to the importance of data as a strategic asset, for federal, state, and local government entities.
