Officials Say Public-Private Partnership Key to Success

As we’ve seen with SBR and other government level data standardisation programs, one of the key messages to come out of the Data Coalition’s “Financial Data Summit” this week was that collaboration is critical. Marrying the private sector’s technical expertise with government’s capacity to set the policy agenda is what will move open data forward in the US (and lots of other places). Officials from the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Treasury Department and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. provided updates and insights on various structured data programs at those agencies. Also interesting was Dick Berner, director of the Treasury Department’s Office of Financial Research, citing the Legal Entity Identifier as a good case study on how to move the government’s data standardisation efforts forward.
