Bridging the gap: EAR and IASB invite registered reports

The European Accounting Review (EAR), in partnership with the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), has announced a call for registered reports for a special issue—focussed on topics related to IASB’s standard-setting agenda. This initiative is designed to encourage deeper, earlier collaboration between academic researchers and standard setters.
Registered reports represent a growing trend in academic publishing: instead of evaluating research only after the results are known, these papers are peer-reviewed and provisionally accepted based on their research question, design, and methodology—before data is even collected. This approach helps eliminate publication bias and encourages robust, transparent research practices.
By embracing this format, the IASB is reinforcing its commitment to evidence-based standard setting. Engaging with researchers early in their studies not only improves the relevance of academic work but also ensures that research can meaningfully inform policy and standard development. It’s a smart move to tighten the feedback loop between theory and practice.
