SEC updates rich XBRL data sets for analysts and innovators

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has released its latest update to the Financial Statement and Notes Data Sets, covering filings through June 2025. These data sets extract detailed numeric and textual information from company filings submitted in XBRL, offering analysts, researchers and developers a deep, structured view into corporate disclosures.
Unlike simpler datasets that capture only face financials, the Financial Statement and Notes Data Sets include extensive information from footnotes and supplementary disclosures. The flattened format makes it easier to conduct longitudinal analysis, cross-compare registrants and drill into industry specifics. And the monthly updates, now a standard since 2020, reflect the SEC’s continued commitment to transparency and usability.
This public dataset is a goldmine for anyone working on financial analytics, risk modelling, or machine learning. But perhaps most importantly, it demonstrates the power of high-quality, machine-readable data in action, which is exactly what XBRL was designed for. And for those ready to dig in, the SEC also provides Python code examples to help users access and analyse these XBRL datasets – available on GitHub and linked directly from the data sets page.
