PwC reflections on early ESEF filings

Looking for an early take on what lessons have been learnt so far from the first reports using the European Single Electronic Format (ESEF)? With voluntary or mandatory filings of December 2020 annual reports well underway in many countries, Jon Rowden, iXBRL Leader at PwC {Ed — Other leading accounting practices are also available}, has shared some early perspectives from the firm’s ESEF experts.

Among these, he notes the value of doing a ‘dry run’ on the prior year’s annual report – an option available this year in countries where the ESEF mandate has been postponed. “A dry run helps identify and solve problems early and we haven’t met a client yet that regrets doing this,” he says. He also recommends reserving time in the process to address errors, and capturing learnings for next year’s filing. Hear hear!
