Where Next for Data?

As the year draws to a close ITProPortal has taken a stab at predicting how data use will change in 2020.

Much of their predictions centre around improvements in AI analysis – which the expansion of structured data around the world will help facilitate. They predict that developments in AI and machine learning will mean patterns across user behaviours can be analysed in order to better distinguish between causation and correlation – a process known as augmented analytics. By combining data sources AI predictions could grow more powerful and sophisticated. The continued growth of internet-enabled devices, trackers and appliances – also known as the Internet of Things – will also drive stronger analytics as wider sources of data become available.

Simultaneously, they predict a growth in localised data strategies as geography becomes increasingly relevant to data privacy. For example, globalised US firms must adapt their data privacy strategies in order to comply with GDPR in Europe and similar legislation being developed in many other parts of the world.
